Pemukulan terhadap mahasiswa Indonesia di Australia terjadi lagi. Kali ini di wilayah South Australia. Berikut kronologinya seperti yang dituliskan oleh Febriyan "Ebi" Hidayat salah seorang yang mengalami kejadian itu.

 The incident happened on 9^th of March 2008, at 5.45 am in front of Rockford Hotel Hindley St. Me (Febrian Hidayat), and my friends (Airlangga, Oscar and Rian) was on our way to the car park on Rose Street to pick up my car. While we were walking on Hidnley Street we saw some group of young people (7 to 9 people) that looked like they were drunk. We realize that they might look for some trouble because of that we tried to walk on the side of the road to avoid some trouble. I was walking side by side with Oscar on the left side of the side walk (near the main road), Airlangga and Rian was walking side by side behind me.

Oscar knew one of the person in the group, and he tried to approaches him to say hi and hoping that they will not start any trouble because he knew one of them. However, one of them still tried to hit Oscar, but Oscar friend stop him by saying “don’t hit him guys, I know him, he always playing Bongo (Brazilian drum) at Rundle Mall and Rundle st”. However, one of them said “Whatever!!”

I step a side to avoid them, but one of them do the same and approaches me, and then there was a physical contact with them (he purposely bump his right shoulders against me) to provoke me. He bump his shoulder against me quite hard, and then he (the same person that provoke me), tried to bump his right shoulder to Rian, however, Rian was aware of what he tried to do, and he dodge it.

At the same time the other person step up and hit Airlangga right in his face using his right elbow. Airlangga wasn’t aware of the situation so he cannot avoid it. He struck down and his face hit the road directly. It seems that they didn’t satisfied with just hit him, the person that hit Airlangga tried to provoke us one by one and threatening to hit us as well. He said “what do u looking at? You wanna get hit as well?” while he was posing to hit us. He repeated what he said not only once but four or five times. His friends didn’t do anything or even tried to stop him they just laughed at us. They start to say some racist comment and swearing words. One of the words that they were saying was “U f***ing Asian, what u doing in our country. Go back to your country C*nt, u all fucking c*nt.”

At that time there was 2 other people and one Adelaide Council staff that walks passed us and tried to help. Rian and those people tried to look at Airlangga condition because he wasn’t able to stand up. While they were move his body, there was blood coming out from his face, however we didn’t know where which part of his face that bleed. I contacted the ambulance straight away and Oscar contacted local police. After five to ten minutes one of the police car arrived with an ambulance car. The police asked us what happened and the ambulance officer tried to treat Airlangga injuries. The police also asked us some details about the incident, our name and also contact number for future references. After awhile the police told us that they caught the group. The other police that caught the group came to the place of incident and bring the person that hit Airlangga and when the ambulance officer brought Airlangga to the ambulance I saw that there is no remorse in his face. He just looks down at him without any sympathy.

They took Airlangga to Royal Adelaide Hospital for the first aid to treated his injury. Me, Oscar and Rian follow them to the hospital to found out about his condition. At that time the Police already contacted Airlangga sister, Astari.

The current condition of Airlangga that we knew from the plastic surgeon; Airlangga is suffering from bone fracture from the area between his eyes, down to his cheek bones and upper lips were fracture badly. His jaw also fractures from the middle part down to the chin. The doctor said they need to do a major plastic surgery and they will put a plate on the part of the damage area. Meanwhile, there are possibilities that they will put a tube from his face to help him gain the nutrition that he need from food.

At this moment I don’t know where the police held the offenders; however I will find out more and inform you as soon as possible.

One more thing that I would like to add; before the incident, my friend Oscar heard one of them said “hey guys, there’s an Asian people, wanna hit them” and most of the people in the group said “Yeah, why not!”

Above was the detail chronology of the incident that happened to Airlangga Hutomo on 9^th of March 2008, at 5.45 am in front of Rockford Hotel Hindley St. I would like to apologize if there are any matters that not clear enough, however, Oscar and Rian can add and/or support some of the details that are needed.
